Protecting rainforests with Cool Earth Action - Keeping carbon where it belongs

2010 Warmest Year on Record!

Last year global measurements - which combine ocean and land surface temperatures - surpassed the highest previous recorded temperatures in 1998 and 2005. The WMO's records also demonstrate that the last decade (2001-2010) was noticeably warmer than the previous (1991-2000).

Climate change is impacting on food production and food prices around the world, but among the hardest hit by unpredictable extremes of rain, drought or hurricanes are less developed nations, the poorest families and in particular indigenous peoples.

"This makes Cool Earth's work, collaborating with indigenous rainforest communities like the Ashaninka to avoid deforestation, so important," emphasises Matthew Owen, Cool Earth's Director.

A recent report by the UNCTAD (UN Conference on Commerce and Development) calculates that extreme weather events have increased five-fold in less developed countries over the last 40 years, causing severe economic losses running into thousands of millions of dollars.
