Boardmasters' Saves Amazon Forest to become this Summer's Coolest Festival

Europe's biggest surf and music festival is headlining with the message SAVE THE AMAZON as it protects an area of endangered rainforest the size of its venue.

Relentless Boardmasters held at Newquay in Cornwall is managing the carbon footprint of its 150,000 visitors and 100 music acts this weekend by saving 40 acres of rainforest with the charity Cool Earth. Festival organisers are bringing the green theme to the arena by protecting a tropical tree in the name of every artist performing at the event along with competing surf champions.

Headlinging act, Norman Cook from Fatboy Slim gives his support to Cool Earth, "It's good to know that a bit of Amazon has been protected on behalf of all the acts and the crowds at Boardmasters with Cool Earth - Cool idea."

And meeting Cool Earth out on the beach at Fistral to help spread the green theme was multiple British and European champion surfer, Ben Skinner, "I'm really stoked that Relentless are getting behind this and surfing is helping to save a bit of Amazon at Boardmasters with Cool Earth. The rainforests are vital for the oceans, so it definitely gets my backing."

The green action is part of a pilot project with Boardmasters to improve environmental practices at events based in Cornwall and is coordinated by Cornwall Development Company's VisitCornwall and Low Carbon Cornwall teams and the Cornish based rainforest charity Cool Earth. The event organisers will be assisted in assessing their carbon footprint and how this information can be used to improve year on year plus they have committed to reducing CO2 emissions globally by saving a piece of rainforest with Cool Earth.
