Cool Earth nurtures graduate talent
Cool Earth has successfully recruited its latest rainforest rescuer through a University Internship Scheme.
The scheme, which is run by Plymouth University is open to applicants across the UK, however the favoured candidate for Cool Earth was a local rainforest enthusiast, who cycled 15 miles to reach his interview, (now that's dedication when it comes to cutting your CO2 emissions!)
Stephen Fothergill, who graduated from University College Falmouth with a degree in journalism has now completed his first week out of eight, helping to raise funds and the charity's profile in Cornwall where it has a base.
29 year old Stephen Fothergill will be keeping a blog about his internship and his tasks at Cool Earth, "I'm really excited about the work I'm doing with Cool Earth and am currently trying to encourage local businesses to help support a rainforest community. As a graduate you brace yourself for unemployment or doing a job which has nothing to do with your degree. But I'm getting to use my skills, whilst I earn a wage and hopefully people will enjoy my blog too."
At a time when many people have tightened their belts, charities are working doubly hard to raise vital funds for important causes. Cool Earth only spends 10% of donations on admin and governance, the Plymouth University Internship scheme, provided an opportunity for an extra pair of hands at a crucial time. Jemma Woodman from Cool Earth will be teaching Stephen about rainforest protection, getting him tweeting and updating Facebook about their latest projects, "Stephen is a real asset to the team and we're looking forward to seeing how he makes his mark."
Stephen Fothergill will be keeping a blog of his experiences which you can check out on the Cool Earth website here .
