Freezing temps suggests 'warming pause'

The ongoing freezing cold snap which is being seen around the globe could be a sign that global warming is about to "pause", it has been claimed.

Global warming 'could be pausing'

According to a number of leading climate change scientists - including UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change member professor Mojib Latif - the globe is now in a "cold mode" which could see temperatures falling for between 20 and 30 years.

Researchers looked at water temperatures in both the Pacific and Atlantic oceans to come to their conclusions.

"The extreme retreats that we have seen in glaciers and sea ice will come to a halt. For the time being, global warming has paused, and there may well be some cooling," said professor Latif.

He noted that the extremely cold conditions being seen around the world will become a more regular occurrence.

The impact of climate change and the reasons behind fluctuations in global temperatures have long been a hotly contested topic among scientists.
