Hollywood movie 'an eye-opener over rainforest communities'

Hollywood blockbuster movie Avatar is an eye-opener about the plight of the indigenous people living in the world's rainforests, it has been noted.

Hollywood film 'reflects real-life plight'

According to an article on Indian Country Today, some Indian tribespeople who live in the rainforests of South America went to see the movie and flagged up its relevance to their existence.

"They said they could relate to the theme of the movie because patterns and elements of the story were analogous to the real life stories of their own peoples," said the source.

While the storyline of the movie may be blown up and dramatised to appeal to Hollywood audiences, the core storyline is reflective of real events, it said.

The film gives "a holistic framework and analogy" from which people can discuss real life events which impact indigenous communities, the source reported.

In Avatar, natives of the fictional planet Pandora are threatened by a firm eager to get their hands on a mineral which can be found beneath their community.
