Minister to detail rainforest conservation measures
The minister of agriculture in Guyana, Robert Persaud, is to make a speech about the country's new ideas over how to protect its rainforests.

He will be appearing at a Town and Gown Cultural Series event and will take to the stage to talk about how the South American nation plans to put the world's first national low carbon development strategy in place.
According to the Guyana government, the measures will address the needs of the developing nation but will also help to tackle global issues around climate change and greenhouse gas emissions.
Figures from the government show that due to low levels of development, Guyana still has some 80 per cent of its original forest cover.
Under the country's "avoided deforestation" initiative, rainforests are to be looked at as "assets that can qualify for carbon financing and programs that provide new economic opportunities".
Construction and the development of the rainforest is one of the leading causes of deforestation across the globe and has led to large regions of forests such as the Amazon being cleared.
