Which big cat has the strongest bite?
Who introduced chocolate to Europe?
What kind of nose does a Tapir have?
12 year old Tom Dymond from Chippenham does, which is why he started term the winner of an acre of rainforest, protected in the name of Sheldon School. The young rainforest enthusiast beat hundreds of other entrants by answering cryptic questions set by a host of different experts, including world famous designer and eco campaigner, Vivienne Westwood. Tom also wrote an impassioned piece about why the rainforest is worth protecting.
Tom Dymond said; "It took me ages to do everything for the competition, but I felt really good writing about the rainforest. When I was told I'd won I couldn't believe it. It felt amazing."
Cool Earth's rainforest champion has won an acre of rainforest sponsored in the name of Sheldon school, where he's a pupil. The prize came as a surprise to his classmates on their first day of term. Tom also won a flip camera and a bag of rainforest goodies.
Matthew Owen, Cool Earth director; "At Cool Earth we know how important it is to educate children about rainforest deforestation, as well as showing them what they can do to help stop it. By winning this competition Tom has shown that there are many children who are very aware of the problems the rainforests face."
The competition was entered by hundreds of students from schools across the country and is an example of the work that is being carried out by Cool Earth to educate children to the threats facing rainforests every day.
