Tea company aims to help save rainforests

A tea company based in the north of England has announced that it intends to play its part in helping to save the world's rainforests.

Yorkshire Tea said it will partner with the Great Yorkshire Show to save one tree for every visitor that attends the event.

The Yorkshire Agricultural Society said the initiative, which is part of family-run business Bettys & Taylors' Yorkshire Rainforest Project, could make this year's Great Yorkshire Show the most eco-conscious yet.

Jonathan Wild, Bettys & Taylors' chief executive, told the Beverley Guardian: "The wholesale destruction of the rainforest is a major contributor to climate change and an acre of rainforest is lost every second of every day."

He added that saving an area the size of Yorkshire will be the company's "biggest challenge to date".

So far, the Yorkshire Rainforest Project has planted more than three million trees around the world as part of its efforts to fight global warming.
