UN orders climate change report review

The United Nations has ordered a review into how its scientists collect information published in reports about climate change, following a high-profile scandal about the findings of one study.

UN orders climate change procedure review

Back in 2007, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) published a report into climate change which suggested that by 2035, huge glaciers in the Himalayas could have melted - a claim which was later found to be based on shaky evidence and incorrect statistics.

Now, the UN is calling for a review into how climate change and its impact is calculated by scientists.

However, secretary general of the UN Ban Ki Moon has still insisted that climate change is a real issue and noted that much of it is manmade.

"I have seen no credible evidence that challenges the main conclusions of that report. The threat posed by climate change is real," he said.

Under the review, the methods used by the IPCC will be looked into by the InterAcademy Council, a group which represents natural science educational establishments.
