Birmingham schools launch

Cool Earth today launched its exciting partnership with Small Heath school in Birmingham.   The school has been endowed with a tranche of rainforest to match the size of the school estate, and the day saw an array of events bringing Brazil and the Amazon to life for students. 

A live web link to one of Cool Earth's projects in Brazil provided a unique opportunity for children to learn about the importance of the forest to the local way of life. 

Frank Field MP, the local Mayor, as well as Birmingham City FC player all attended the launch.  

Cool Earth has provided the school with materials like brazil nuts and model poison dart frogs and other teaching resources, to help pupils understand the importance of the forest to bio-diversity and climate.

Matthew Owen, Cool Earth Director, said at the launch:

"By giving children stewardship of rainforest, as well as a real connection with local communities and information about the importance of tropical trees, Cool Earth's school programme will give young people a real sense of responsibility for critically threatened rainforest."
