Co-founder named as one of Britain's leading philanthropists

29/04/2008

richlistcover_100Alongside the publication of the Sunday Times Rich List 2008, was the, arguably, more important Giving List, which details the top 50 philanthropists over the last year.  What the list shows is that the super-rich are involved in hitherto unprecedented acts of philanthropy for a variety of charitable causes.

In at number 12 is Johan Eliasch, co-founder of Cool Earth.  He has been recognised for his contributions to environmental causes; over the last year alone he has given £50 million to conservation of Amazon rainforest.

At the top of the list is Christopher Hohn - a 41 year old hedge fund manager - who while owning £125 million, has donated, largely through his company 'Children Investment Funds Management', £235.8 million in the last year to education and humanitarian programmes (more than 200 per cent of his net wealth).
