Johan Eliasch, co-founder of Cool Earth and one of the world's leading investors in environmental conservation has been appointed by the Prime Minister, Gordon Brown, as advisor on deforestation and green energy.
"Cool Earth's huge growth since our launch in June has demonstrated to governments across the world that climate change can be tackled if we halt deforestation. Taking up this invitation from the Prime Minister, I look forward to a very challenging task and hope to make a real difference to both UK domestic policy and global policy." Johan Eliasch said
Cool Earth is one of the world's fastest growing environmental movements, enabling people across Europe and the US to protect endangered rainforest by sponsoring individual acres, supporting local communities and becoming directly engaged in conservation. Since its launch in June 2007 Cool Earth has kept over 7 million tonnes of CO2 where it belongs - in tropical forests. Destruction of such forests releases more global warming gases each year than the entire US making Cool Earth's work a critical strategy in tackling climate change.
