Forest protected so far: 37,106 acres
Cool Earth Action - Keeping carbon where it belongs

Cristalino

The Brazilian State of Mato Grosso has seen some of the past decade's highest rates of deforestation.

Cristalino State Park, in the Teles Pires river basin, northern Mato Grosso, is at the frontier of destruction because of its location between the savannah or cerrado and the rainforest - it is also the most bio-diverse State reserve in the Brazilian Amazon.

Cattle ranching, combined with timber extraction, soy plantations and associated fires, produce the so-called "Arc of Deforestation" which is advancing northwards into the Amazon basin.

Working with Fauna and Flora International, Cool Earth is protecting an area which adjoins the southern section of the State reserve. As such we are creating a crucial buffer to avoid destruction of the State park and further deforestation of the Amazon to the north.

Helping to protect just half an acre puts a protective arm around some of the world's most valuable natural resources.

We will shortly be updating you on the project and information on wildlife sightings so you can learn more about what's happening on the ground, so please come back soon!
