Rainforest projects
Cool Earth currently has projects in Peru, Brazil and Ecuador - with new sites in development. The project areas have been specifically chosen because they are of high strategic value for a number of reasons:
- They are located at the frontier of destruction, where rain forest is immediately threatened by human activities like logging and cattle ranching.
- Either their location or their conservation acts as a protective blockade for tens of thousands of acres of forest behind them, ensuring our sponsors are protecting far more than their own acres.
- They are mature rainforests with uniquely high levels of biodiversity reflecting thousands of years of undisturbed growth, wildlife and species.

Sustainable development is key to preserving the rainforest

Each of the Cool Earth projects secure threatened rainforest with your money. We put it in a local trust, and work towards protecting it around the clock to keep the carbon where it belongs. We employ local people to do the work, help fund community based livelihood and/or education services and make sure the rainforest is worth more standing than cut down.
You can find out more about each project below and by reading the project updates which we will be adding every few months:
- Awacachi( 3 items )
Copyright: Juan Pablo Moreiras/FFThe rainforest of Ecuador has amongst the highest levels of biodiversity found anywhere on the planet. The Awacachi Corridor is a key strategic site that along with the area it adjoins, reinforces the conservation of over 350,000 ha. of unique rainforest. Working with local partners, Cool Earth is helping to secure this corridor of land by investing in its protection system and in local community development that values forest conservation above forest destruction.
By sponsoring an acre of the Awacachi Corridor you will plug a gaping hole in the defences of the Ecuadorean rainforest.
Below you can find recent updates from the project telling you about the work we do on the ground and also the most recent wildlife sightings:
- Ashaninka( 1 items )
Ashaninka lies in an arc of deforestation that is destroying some of the world's richest stores of forest carbon. Hand in hand with local partners, Cool Earth is securing forest once held by logging concessions and opening it up to rubber tappers and harvesters of forest produce. By investing in sustainable local production, we are helping to price destruction out of the market.
