Meat-free day held to highlight rainforest destruction

A number of universities around the world have held a meat-free day to highlight the impact that the global meat industry is having on the precious eco systems of our planet.

Go meat free for a day, students urged

This week, Tel Aviv University encouraged its students to avoid eating meat for the day, local news source Y Net News reported, with educational institutions including Harvard, Oxford, UCLA and Columbia also getting involved in the campaign.

Rock star Paul McCartney and daughter Stella, a world-renowned fashion designer, are backing the campaign. McCartney was previously married to Linda McCartney, who was well known for her animal rights campaigning before her death from cancer.
