Rainforest protection plans questioned
The effectiveness of "money and good intentions" in the fight to stop rainforest deforestation has been questioned.

Writing for Spiegel International Online, environmental commentator Christoph Seidler said that while a desire to help reduce rainforest deforestation was good, without a real plan, there could be issues.
"The West wants to direct billions toward protecting forest lands, but the lack of any standardised rules and enforcement methods could lead to disaster," he wrote.
He went on to note that many are fearful that instead of going to the rainforest communities it is supposed to, any money given towards the cause may end up in the hands of bureaucrats.
As well as this, many rainforest experts feel that responsibility for coming up with rainforest protection ideas should lie with the indigenous communities themselves.
Deforestation in the world's rainforests is down to a number of factors, including clearing for the global beef industry to raise cattle and logging for timber companies.
