Wildlife park prepares for new arrivals

The Symbio Wildlife Park in Australia is to be the new home of two rare tigers native to the Indonesian island of Sumatra, it has been announced.

Tiger cubs head for new life Down Under

Next year, two Sumatran tiger cubs are to be added to the park's wildlife collection, which already includes native Australian animals such as kangaroos and koala bears, and other animals including crocodiles and rare red pandas.

The two cubs are to be moved from their current home at Auckland Zoo.

Commenting on the new arrivals, park owner John Radnidge said: "Sumatran tigers are absolutely stunning animals. Sadly scientists say that in ten years there won't be one tiger left in the wild, so we're very excited to be able to play a role in the conservation and breeding of this critically endangered creature."

There are six remaining lowland rainforests on the island of Sumatra and the Tropical Rainforest Heritage of Sumatra is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
