Cool Earth Action - Keeping carbon where it belongs

Cool School

Be a COOL SCHOOL and make a difference

The Cool School initiative is about engaging children in rainforest protection whilst making local businesses more carbon positive. This is how it works: Businesses can lock in 260 tonnes of CO2 by sponsoring an acre or more of rainforest on behalf of a school. They need to register their donation in the school's name. The school can then view their plot of rainforest in their Cool Earth account. This is your window on the tropics and also a valuable classroom teaching resource. If you don't want to get a business involved you can always sponsor an acre directly with Cool Earth. Get in touch.

How do I get going?

Most businesses are keen to improve their green credentials and will be very happy to receive a nudge from their local school encouraging them to get on board the Cool School initiative. Your school will no doubt have a host of companies it interfaces with on a daily basis. You may wish to approach one of them directly and to help you do that you can download our Cool School Mission Statement to fill them in on the scheme. Alternatively you can send a letter to a company you feel might like to do a little extra to save the environment whilst helping a local school to learn about it. You can print off the Cool School sample letter to help get you started. Or if you want to get involved but can't think of a business to help you out, then drop us an email at coolschool@coolearth.org and we'll try and find a suitable company to bring the rainforest into your classroom.

How does a business sponsor your school?

It's simple - a business wishing to sponsor an acre on behalf of a school can Sponsor Now choosing one of our projects where they would like to protect rainforest. When asked whose name they would like to sponsor the acre in they add your school. To receive your certificate and account details you must provide them with your email address. How did Cool School happen?

South West teacher meets Cool Earth and Cool School is timetabled.

Photograph of Dan Roberts with some of his pupils at Saltash.net Community SchoolDan Roberts Assistant Head at Saltash.net Community School in Cornwall was the brains behind this initiative. He wanted to get his students thinking about their carbon footprint in the hope Saltash.net school could influence others to do the same.  Whilst in the middle of the Peruvian pristine rainforest on the Cool Earth Teacher Fellowship he stumbled upon the idea of Cool School and hopes businesses will back schools in making a difference. Plymouth Argyle Football Club is the first business to get involved and has sponsored an area of rainforest the size of their football pitch on behalf of Saltash.net Community School.
