Cool Earth's Schools Programme Launch - Competition Winner

The threat to rainforest from human hands is posing new challenges for species to battle with. We asked students to design and name a new species of plant or animal that has imaginative ways of dealing with the ever increasing challenges of living in the rainforest.

We had saw many fantastic designs but our winner was Jack Mayer-wood, age 10, from Wallands CP School in East Sussex.

Fantastic creature design by Jack Mayer-Wood

His new species had many characteristics to help it survive in the rainforest, including protective tusks, scales and sting, large eyes to help with swimming, webbed toes and sharp claws for digginng, swimming and climbing, large limb muscles and armour plating.

Thank you to everyone who entered and congratulaion to Jack and Wallands CP School, who recieved an acre of rainforest sponsored in their name. Jack's design was illustrated by Rob Steen and he received a Flanimals book signed by Ricky Gervais.
