Protecting rainforests with Cool Earth Action - Keeping carbon where it belongs

Where does the money go?

People support Cool Earth because they want to make a difference. A difference to communities, to endangered biodiversity, a difference to our climate future. That's why we prefer to spend money on projects rather than paperclips. To make sure of this, Cool Earth spends no more than 10% of individuals' sponsorship on administration and governance. At the moment we're at 8% because of some very generous law firms (thank you BLP and DLA-Piper).

But what about the other 90%? It varies from project to project but over the past twelve months 35% has gone directly to securing land that would have otherwise been destroyed and 55% is going to local communities to keep the it safe, protected and monitored 24/7.

Securing land sometimes means buying land on behalf of local people but can also include getting good title and reserve status on land they should already own. Of course, much logging is done illegally on a piecemeal basis with only the most valuable trees removed. But this opens up access for more sustained clearance so we also spend your money on helping communities protect the most valuable and, in many cases, the most sacred, trees even if they stand outside a Cool Earth project.
