Facebook users just have to click the ‘like' button on the app which sits on the Buyagift page to protect one tree.

Protecting one rainforest tree from being deforested prevents at least one tonne of CO₂ from being emitted into the atmosphere. At least 25,000 trees are expected to be protected through the ‘Save a Tree' app, locking in a staggering 150, 000 tonnes of CO₂.

Cool Earth's director Matthew Owen is encouraging everyone to use the ‘Save a Tree' app. "This is probably one of the simplest and most powerful green actions you can take on Facebook to protect the rainforest and help fight climate change. Cool Earth is hoping that 25,000 social networkers will get behind the scheme so we can really make a difference."

Fighting climate change is a serious business for Buyagift.com who have decided to replace buying one-for-one offsets with a commitment to rainforest conservation. As part of Cool Earth's commitment to making the forests worth more standing to the local communities than knocked down, Buyagift will also be responsible for providing much needed medical and educational facilities for the Ashaninka Tribe of the Peruvian Amazon.
