Run Forest Run!

Run Forest Run 3

Wow how time flies! August is here and the run Forest Run team are in complete training mode. After a few fantastic weeks away in Borneo Jemma and I have returned with full enthusiasm and drive to join Kitty in the next phase of training leading up to the big day.

This month we're going to be stepping up the distances across both our shorter and longer runs. It will see us moving on from a 4, 5, and 7 to a slightly more advanced 5, 6, and 8 mile distances. This will be putting us right on course for the 13.1 miles on September 25th.

Watch out for our step by step weekly running bog which we're going to kick start on the 1st of September throughout the month, giving you a deeper insight into where the sponsorship money from our run is going and how it's helping to support our projects across the globe.

We've just launched our official Run Forest Run - Just Giving Page so please feel free to sponsor us on our achievements.

Thank you for all your support,

Run Forest Run 2

(Cool Earth's Business Development Officer, Lauren Faulkner brings the running update.)

July is now upon us and we've got just 3 months to get fit enough to embark on the 13.1 miles waiting for us on the 25th September.

As the only regular runner of our team and with a few marathons done and dusted, I'm aiming to try and run for a personal best this time in under 2 hours. I have a strict training schedule of two short runs and one long run every week, but am also trying track training for the first time, something I have never done before!  I'm steadily building up the miles week on week.

My regular weekly run from my house in Penryn to Flushing and back is approx 4.3 miles (7km) and true to Cornwall it includes lots of steep hills to really get the heart rate going. I'm currently doing it in around 40 minutes so will try and knock that down. I always find it easier to run listening to my sacred running playlist! These are my all time favourite running tracks. I promise that if you get listening to these the miles fly by!

Road Runner: MIA

 No cars go: Arcade Fire

Helicopter: Bloc Party

Drink to moving on: Grand National

In for the Kill (Sream Remix): La Roux

Jemma and I have to step up the training a little bit over the next couple of weeks as we are off to Borneo to research a potential new rainforest project. We won't be back until August so it knocks out a lot of our training. We're packing our trainers and hoping to sneak some runs in Borneo in between our research and filming!

We're having our first proper training session as a team tonight so Jemma and Kitty are joining me at the nearest beach to the office! It'll be great running with the girls and spurring each other on!

The Cool Earth Running TeamAt Cool Earth we are always inspired by the incredible amount of rainforest protected by runners fundraising for us. Fuelled by our director, Matthew Owen's, slightly sceptical response at the thought of us completing a race of any distance, the Cool Earth girls found ourselves signed up to a half marathon within a matter of minutes!

With three months left to go to train for the Run to the Beat Half Marathon in London on September 25th, Cool Earth's Jemma Woodman and Lauren Faulkner are joining me, Kitty Jenkin in training. We are aiming to raise enough money to protect 30 acres of endangered Amazonian rainforest in Peru.

The three of us have very varied running abilities. Lauren, who is 30,  is a devoted runner with a few marathons under her belt. She is striving for a personal best at the race. Jemma is 38 and hasn't exercised in over a decade but has joined her local running club to knock her into shape.  I am 23 and spend more time surfing than running, but am hoping with a little extra motivation I'll get fit enough to complete the 13 miles.

Rainforest Communities in PeruIt will be great to show people how much fun you can have running in a team whilst doing something truly fantastic.

Of course, having been out to the rainforest and seen firsthand the arc of deforestation creeping closer to the villages of the rainforest communities, we realise how vital these funds are in supporting the indigenous people's fight to keep their forest standing.

We'll be keeping you posted with our latest running news, training tips and fundraising activities. If you've been inspired to run to rescue rainforest e-mail Kitty at fundraising@coolearth.org
