WEXAS
The WEXAS Travel Foundation is protecting more than 260 acres of endangered rainforest by giving to Cool Earth. The Foundation is a registered charity and a non-profit division of WEXAS, the UK's leading travel club for leisure and business travellers.
"WEXAS has been supporting conservation projects ever since it was founded back in 1970," explains Pete Mathers, Marketing Communications Manager for WEXAS and Trustee of The WEXAS Travel Foundation.
"When we established the Foundation in 2007, we immediately recognised Cool Earth as a key contributor in the fight against climate change. Carbon offsetting is all well and good but the principal remains the same - to neutralise the CO2 emissions produced by business and personal activity. Yet sponsoring just one acre of rainforest through Cool Earth will protect around 20 times the amount of CO2 the average Brit will produce in a year, not to mention providing jobs for the local people and preserving valuable ecosystems. For a company committed to responsible tourism, partnering Cool Earth was among the easiest decisions we've ever had to make!"
Cool Earth director, Matthew Owen adds; "For such a well established travel company, it's no surprise that WEXAS takes a truly global approach in everything it does; including its giving. The WEXAS Foundation has been a key supporter of Cool Earth since our launch and continues to make a huge difference in supporting indigenous communities to keep rainforest standing."
WEXAS members are invited to make a £2 donation to The WEXAS Travel Foundation each time they make a travel booking. WEXAS staff organise regular fundraising initiatives, from treasure hunts, raffles and bake sales to physical challenges like climbing the Three Peaks, walking the South West Coast Path and cycling across Britain! WEXAS itself covers all of the Foundation's administrative costs and makes annual contributions to the Foundation's coffers.
