Cool Earth Action - Keeping carbon where it belongs

Alamy

Alamy - the web's largest stock photo site - is one of Cool Earth's leading partners and is already helping to protect over one hundred acres of endangered tropical forest.

Its support of Cool Earth is helping to supercharge its carbon responsibility as part of its policy of reducing greenhouse gas emissions from air travel and electricity use.

Alamy has secured 172.0 acres of mature rainforest and has kept 44,720 tonnes of carbon dioxide where it belongs. Alamy sponsorship is protecting around 7,568 mature trees, 32,680 saplings, 6 endangered species of animal, 322 types of plant and over 11,000 species of insect and worm.

Alamy's commitment to rainforest protection is already making a huge difference to the lives of local communities and the security of the trees in the Cutivireni Project in Peru.

"We're proud to be working with Cool Earth in keeping carbon where it belongs. We hope the partnership continues to grow from strength to strength."

Overall, the project that Alamy supports will protect almost eight million tonnes of CO2 - equivalent to the annual carbon emissions of a city the size of Oxford [700,000].

By investing in local processing of forest produce, Cool Earth is working with the communities to ensure they earn a better income from living trees than cleared land. Income from adding value to brazil nuts and açai berries ensures that the custodian role played by local people is underpinned by sustainable jobs.
