Choice changes lives

Easy as it may be to label people that work for Palm Oil or logging companies as ‘bad’, most of the time it’s simply the only option. Despite a love of the forest and an appreciation of their environment, our rainforest friends are often left with no choice but to work for the bad guy. That’s why Cool Earth wants to enable rainforest partnerships the choice to change their lives.

Perhaps one of Cool Earth’s greatest ideas was hiring Isaac Dauge and Huber Ccayas Cruz. From logging company truck driver to Gadaisu’s dedicated Biodiversity Officer, Isaac is a shining example of the power of choice. Isaac now works tirelessly placing and maintaining camera traps, and showing all the people in the community the incredible animals that live metres from their door.

Huber grew up in Peru’s mountains and arrived in the Rio Ene as a young illegal logger. But after a chance meeting with Micaela in Cutivireni, the rest is history. These days you’ll find him raising their two children, campaigning to keep trees standing, and chairing committee meetings as the president of the community association.

Rainforest communities want to preserve their land and forest, they just need to be given the chance to do so. By working with communities to increase income opportunities, Cool Earth is giving the gift of choice, changing lives, and saving rainforest in the process.
