The CCC is fundraising to save the rainforest. By now you have surely heard that we will be in Sri Lanka in the spring of 2019 racing our Tuk Tuk with the Adventurists. Surely, a great adventure and extreme fun. Nevertheless, we believe in giving back, so we are fundraising for Cool Earth (a very cool NGO as the name implies). Cool Earth works alongside rainforest communities to halt deforestation and its impact on climate change. They are the only ones working solely where the threat to the forest is greatest, on the frontline of deforestation. Cool Earth is responsible for the protection of more than 900,000 acres of rainforest and 200 million trees. At the same time they have empowered 118 communities throughout the world that act as guardians of the rainforest. We are not Captain Planet, but we are doing our best. This is why ask for your support in raising funds. We are aiming for 1000 pounds, but going beyond that will give you and us, extra bragging rights. Costantinos, Charis, Nicolas
Why would one care about the rainforest?
Well, because it is super important for the global ecosystem and because it is systematically being destroyed.
Half of the world’s rainforest has been destroyed in the last 40 years. From the remaining forests only 26% are still intact. The rainforest produces 20% of the global oxygen, provides 1/5 of our water and it is home to 6 million species. If you don't care about species, or water, or oxygen (that gas that you inhale to keep you alive), you should know that the rainforest is home to 350 million people who depend upon it for everything. A further 1.6 billion depend on the rainforests for their livelihoods. This means one in ten people in the world rely upon the rainforest.
