This July we’ll be driving a 20 year old Nissan Micra from Ireland to Mongolia. You can’t raise money without enduring some hardship, so we’ve chosen an unsuitable car for an unsuitable route. We’ll sweep across Europe into Turkey, where the adventure really begins. If we don’t overheat in Turkey we’ll cross the Caucuses and pass through Georgia and Azerbaijan reaching the Caspian Sea. A rusty cargo ship will see us over to Turkmenistan, Central Asia's answer to North Korea. After this we’ve 4 more ‘Stans’ and the Pamir mountains to conquer before reaching Russia, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan. A quick blast through Russia will connect us with Mongolia where we’ll cross the famous Mongolian Steppe and the Gobi Desert. In total it will be in excess of 10,000 miles through extreme heat, desert night chills and some of the worst roads imaginable. All in a tatty city run about.
