It seemed like a good idea at the time….. In January, a good friend, Tristan Howitt, and I will be participating in a 3,500km adventure race from Jaisalmer, Rajasthan to Kochi, Kerela. The race commences on 2 January, and all being good, we should finish by 15 January. I say all being good as the mode of transport is a rickshaw (tuk-tuk). There will be over 80 rickshaws participating, crewed mostly by much, much younger crews. However, we plan to make up for this through guile and serious gamesmanship which is, fortuitously, allowed. The rickshaw is a rubbish vehicle for this (2 stroke, single cylinder, air cooled, 145.45cc, with all the power of a very large pet rabbit), but the main point of taking a rickshaw across India is that it is unsuitable and it will break down so we will inevitably meet a lot of people. Evidently, foreigners in rickshaws are also very well received by villagers and city folk alike, largely because they cannot believe anyone could truly be this stupid, so they have endearing sympathy. We are funding the costs ourselves because this is a fun thing to do and it has a purpose. We have also purchased 10 trees by way of offsetting our carbon emissions. But to achieve the loftier aims of this venture, we are hoping that you might consider donating to Cool Earth.
