Welcome to the Mongol Rally! We are an intercontinental team of self-made rally racers with the exceptional skills of having no skills. We’re just a happy group of friends driving from London to Mongolia to raise awareness for the rainforests. Our names are Austin Hubley, Marek Bułaciński, Christelle Pellet, and Catherine Tran, and we’re from Canada, Poland, France, and Vietnam. Our determination and experiences make us the perfect team that could get lost, destroyed, damaged, lost, deported or lost. We are committed to a safety third standard and assure a 'we-don't-know-we-didn't-listen' policy at all times. This page is where we are fundraising to save the rainforests and to save the world! Feel free to sit back, have some tea, and stay a little while.
Rainforests are awesome! Everybody needs rainforests; not just to create oxygen, but because without them there’d be no tigers to run away from, no pith hats, no poisonous tree frogs, and no Tarzan! They’re the perfect place for adventure. Rainforests are indescribably excellent, but they’re being destroyed at a rate faster than ever, and they need your help. If you're still not convinced, consider this excerpt from Richard Williams (Prince EA):
"Fun fact: planet Earth is 4.5 billion years old. Mankind? About 140,000 years old.
Let me put that in perspective: If you condense the Earth's lifespan into 24 hours, that's one full day, then we have been here on this planet for...
...drum roll please...
...three seconds. Three seconds, and look what we've done.
In the next 10 to 100 years, every beloved animal character in every children's book is predicted to go extinct.
Tiger? Gorilla? Elephant? Polar bear?
Gone. In three seconds.
Creatures that have been here longer than us, will be gone because of us. In our three seconds of existence, we have learned to wipe out species at 1,000 times the previous rate. We are destroying our own legacy, our own memories, our kind—and our brothers and sisters in the animal world.
Time is of the essence, and only together can we make it to the fourth second."
What's all this about Mongolia? Mongol what?
The idea is simple:
1. Round up some team mates,
2. Buy an old car off your gran,
3. Drive it to Mongolia.
Here's what The Adventurists have to say:
“Welcome to the Mongol Rally: the greatest adventure on the planet.
Bad roads, no roads, and roads heading in the wrong direction. The Mongol Rally thunders 15,000 kilometres across the mountains, desert and steppe of Europe and Asia each summer. There’s no backup, no support and no set route; just you, your fellow adventurists and a tiny car you bought from a scrapyard for £11.50.
If nothing goes wrong, everything has gone wrong.
Bollocks to tarmac, ABS and gadgets that help you find your navel. The Mongol Rally is about getting lost, using your long neglected wits, raising shedloads of cash for charity and scraping into the finish line with your vehicle in tatters and a wild grin smeared across your grubby face.
Neither your car, nor your life, will ever be the same again.”
When and where?
We'll be starting in London mid-July, and finishing a few months later whenever we get to Mongolia.
