Livelihood Support

By building livelihoods we ensure that communities earn more from keeping the forest standing than they would otherwise from clearing it, or from Cool Earth.

That’s how our partnerships become self-sufficient, not dependent. So whether it’s with cacao, coffee or coconut oil, our partner villages are out-pricing rainforest destruction.

Whilst commercial companies can offer communities significant income for their land, this one-off payment is rarely long lasting or far reaching.  Forest loss can entrench poverty as resources which villages previously relied on are no longer available.

Cool Earth partners with the whole community to build livelihoods, long term. Many of these livelihoods are associated with the forest such as agroforestry and making jewellery using seeds. This strengthens the importance of the forest within the communities and is an effective way to protect land.

We work closely with our partnerships to research the most viable and profitable businesses for them, before finding local NGOs with all of the necessary infrastructure, and employing local experts to deliver training.

COOPERATIVES

COOPERATIVES

We help to establish cooperatives, enabling artisans and farmers alike to learn business skills together and share production and transport costs.

LINKING MARKETS

LINKING MARKETS

We help to link growers with a range of local, high value markets to sell their produce, providing communities with a source of income, long term.

TRAINING & EQUIPMENT

TRAINING & EQUIPMENT

By employing technicians to provide training and advice, we help farmers improve cultivation techniques and increase produce yield and quality.
