Cool Earth - A tribute to the Queen

A life in dedication

A tribute to Her Majesty the Queen

Our Director Matthew Owen reflects on the environmental work the Queen has spearheaded throughout her life, as a tribute to her passing.

I would like to offer my condolences to the Royal Family following the very sad announcement of the death of Her Majesty the Queen.

The Queen’s love of the natural world and wildlife was keenly felt throughout her life, and the many patronages she held across charities, including conservation organisations, demonstrated this.

Cool Earth was proud to launch Her Majesty’s first major environmental campaign with the Queen’s Commonwealth Canopy (QCC) back in 2015.

Through a network of forest conservation projects, the QCC marked Her Majesty’s dedicated service while conserving indigenous forests for future generations.

More recently, Her Majesty stated ahead of COP26 in 2021 that the “time for words has now moved to the time for action”, in a direct address to the politicians in attendance in a clear message to changemakers to do just that.

The Queen’s Green Canopy (QGC) initiative was launched by Cool Earth in 2021, through which the Queen was instrumental in helping people in the UK protect their local environment in the fight against the climate crisis.

The one million trees planted to celebrate her Jubilee will no doubt swell in numbers as a tribute to her evergreen reign.

My thoughts are with her family.

Matthew Owen,
Director
