Cool Earth has sent supplies to flood victims living in the Asháninka region of the Peruvian rainforest after their homes were washed away in extreme weather conditions.
Crops and food gardens were destroyed in six villages following heavy rainfall in the Eastern Andes. No lives were lost and water levels are now subsiding. After sending out an SOS to its supporters, Cool Earth has now funded essential food parcels containing items such as rice, noodles, cooking oil and salt.
As well as food, the UK charity is supplying mattocks, machetes and sharpening files to the communities, to help with the garden rehabilitation efforts.
Cool Earth has been supporting these communities for more than one year on a long term initiative to keep loggers out of Asháninka forests and avoid deforestation in order to contribute to the mitigation of climate change.
