River Otter

The Giant River Otter is one the Amazon’s most spectacular mammals. Found in 10 Amazon nations the endangered animals reach a length of 1.8 metres and have extraordinarily close family bonds, doing nearly everything together, hunting, marking their territories, sunbathing, sleeping and playing. Young otters have even been found to feed an old females that would have had difficulty hunting for herself.

Scientists are hoping to unravel the last mysteries surrounding these playful creatures who are at risk from deforestation, mining, roads, climate change and even local fishermen.
