Cryptozoology is the pursuit of ‘hidden’ or undiscovered animals with scientific rigour. Every year, almost 20,000 new species are described by the world’s scientists. The top discovery is often held to the ‘okapi’ in 1901. Its existence was rumoured for years and came to be known as the ‘African unicorn’- living in the rainforests of the Democratic Republic of Congo.
